Molasses Grill is owned and operated by Chef Steven Schopen and his family. Originally from England and Michigan, the Schopen family decided to open their restaurant in South Side Virginia in 2005 after falling in love with Halifax County and the local flavors of the region. While the menu ranges from American steak house fare, modern interpretations of French classics, and hints of flavors from around the world, each dish reflects an aspect of  Southern Virginia. Chef Steve’s dishes, while not always quintessentially “Southern” are truly “Southern Inspired”.

Chef Steve also strives to use as many local products whenever seasonally available. Molasses Grill was committed to being a “farm to table” establishment long before it became a trend. You can rely on experiencing seasonal produce, honey, eggs, and meats on your visit. A constantly rotating menu not only insures the freshest ingredients and seafood offerings, but also means regulars who dine there at least once a week are never bored.

Everything is made in house right down to the bread and ice creams. As everything is made to order, guests can trust our team to accommodate dietary restrictions such as gluten intolerance or a vegan diet.

A craft cocktail program along with an extensive wine list, bourbon selection, craft bottled beer, and six rotating taps are always available to compliment your meal. Dine before 7pm on Friday and Saturdays and receive 20% off bottles of wine! Molasses Grill is only open Thursday- Sunday for dinner starting at 5pm so reservations are strongly recommended!
